The Mahatma Letters to A.P. Sinnett is one of the classics of Theosophical literature. First published in 1923, they are letters written by the Mahatmas Koot Hoomi and Morya to A.P. Sinnett and A.O. Hume during the early years of the Theosophical Society. The depth and profundity of the teachings therein have been a source of inspiration to students all over the world.

This edition arranges the letters in their chronological sequence, based on the extensive research of George Linton and Virginia Hanson, as set forth in their Readers Guide to the Mahatma Letters. To further help the reader understand and appreciate the circumstances surrounding the letters, this edition has included brief notes to the letters written by Mrs. Hanson, who has written many books and articles on the Mahatma Letters and who was awarded the T. Subba Row medal for her work.

This volume also includes all the other known letters and notes of the Mahatmas to Sinnett and Hume, including the famous letter of the Mahachohan regarding the Theosophical Society. A new expanded index has been prepared for this edition.

This is one of the notably important books of Theosophy. It contains the letters from the Masters, the teachers of H.P. Blavatsky, to A.P. Sinnett and to A.O. Hume. Earlier published versions of this book have been arranged by topic. Since some letters are undated it was even harder for the reader to understand them in proper sequence. With this edition, the letters are arranged in chronological sequence and generous notes are included that assist the reader with background information of when and where - information that has accumulated with years of research.

These letters were written as personal letters to individuals so the material is not written with the generality and finished form of published material. So you should read some other material of Theosophy first. And when you are ready, dig into this for priceless insight. In sum: a key book with the best arrangement and annotation.

Here is one inspiring quote from one letter:

"Nature has linked all parts of her Empire together by subtle threads of magnetic sympathy, and there, there is a mutual correlation even between a star and a man; thought runs swifter than the electric fluid, and your thought will find me if projected by a pure impulse, as mine will find, has found, and often impressed upon your mind. We may move in cycles divided-not entirely separated from each other: Like the light in the sombre valley seen by the mountaineer from his peaks, every bright thought in your mind, my Brother, will sparkle and attract the attention of your distant friend, and correspondent. If thus we discover our natural Allies in the Shadow-world - your world and ours outside the precincts - and it is our law to approach every such an one if even there be but the feeblest glimmer of the true "Tathagata" light within him - then how far easier for you to attract us. (Letter XLV)"
